2017 Healthy Holiday Gift Guide

Discover healthier skin this holiday season—I'm sharing my favorite beauty products of 2017! And some other gifts ideas for the healthy-hearted on your list too.

Sea of Elements Skin Trio (Products starting at $18)

No one ever regretted taking care of their skin, right? I know I don't. In fact, I'm so glad it's something I invested in starting in my early 20s and would encourage young women everywhere to do. Because there's no better feeling than being comfortable in your own skin!

So if you're looking for somewhere to start or maybe wanting to try something new in 2018, Sea of Elements has you covered.

I'm totally hooked on this California-based skincare line that uses 100% natural, plant-based ingredients. No matter what skin type you have, this three-step ritual is essential to counteract the daily effects of the environment, the elements, the seasons, stress, and the skin’s natural process of cell degeneration. Head to seaofelements.com to discover your skin type and if you have Pitta Skin like me, here's the 3 products I use every single day:

Balancing Face Dust—tones, detoxifies and exfoliates. ($18.00)

Calming Facial Mist—a cooling and hydrating facial mist. ($29.00)

Calming Facial Elixir—a soothing and nutrient-rich facial oil. ($25.00)

Glowing Boom Sticks by Cindy Joseph ($26-$76)

I had the pleasure of hearing this 60-something natural beauty speak one time and her simple approach to beauty inspired me to share the kinds of things I do today. I'll never forget her encouraging us women in the crowd to wake up every morning and instead of starting our day with covering up our faces with makeup....to first pick out one thing on your face you love just as it is. It's such a simple way to start your day on a positive note rather than a negative one about yourself. And best of all, it helped move me to embrace totally makeup free skin days which allows my skin to breathe and heal.

Her simple line, BOOM! by Cindy Joseph, has been around for years, because the products contain simple ingredients that simply work. And for the past several years, they have been go-to's for my mom & I. Me, 30, her, in her mid-50s. Doesn't matter. When you need a little glow around your cheeks and eyes, the BOOMSTICK GLIMMER is your best friend. And for a rosy hue on cheeks, I love swiping on BOOMSTICK COLOR. These are two makeup staples for me that travel extremely well—and last a long time!

Her full trio (which includes BOOMSTICK GLO) makes a great gift or like me, just stop by her online store to hand pick 1 or 2 items for yourself.

2018 Every Day Matters Planner ($15)

I look forward to ordering this part planner/part journal every year! It's not only how I keep track of my life, it's fully of 12 months of inspiration.

Each month has a theme (e.g., Openness, Freedom) and daily motivations and reminders to help you pursue a better you that month, rooted in the theme.

My favorite thing of all— the physical journal is such a nice contrast to my digitally-driven life. I buy mine on Amazon.

Minearl Fusion Makeup (Prices vary)

If I had to take one line to a desert island with me, this would be it!

My everyday makeup comes from this #1 natural cosmetic brand started in Denver, Colorado.

And my #1 favorite product of theirs is the pressed powder foundation ($32.99), which comes in a variety of shades. Not only does it act as makeup to even skin tone, the foundation nourishes skin with a powerful blend of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that defend skin against free radical damage. Formulated with only the safest ingredients, this makeup is a great option for all skin types. And it's fragrance free too, which is ideal for sensitive skin.

You could swing by a Whole Foods like I do to try them out and find the right shade for you.

And since I apply a lot of oil to my skin, this foundation balances that out creating a natural-looking finish. If your skin is on the dry side, you might consider applying an oil before this powder otherwise skin could look too matte, especially during winter months. And I prefer anything that helps me glow!

I'm also a fan of:

Bronzer/Blush Duo ($32.99)

Revitalizing Eye Cream ($22.99)

Wild Glitter (starting at 2.75 euro)

Yes, glitter is on my Christmas list this year! It's no longer just for festivals or kids, glitter can enhance a beauty routine in a really subtle way.

But often cosmetic glitter isn't safe for skin. So I was thrilled to come across this European-based line that's totally safe to use on skin. 100% biodegradable, cruelty-free glitter.

Disclaimer: I have yet to order or try this product, it's just on my wishlist right now. I'll be ordering some soon though so expect a review around the corner! I just hope I can get my hands on some in time for NYE!

Winc.com ($45/mo for 3 bottles + $25 off your first order)

The holidays wouldn't be complete without wine :-). This monthly service brings wines you'll love right to your door. I believe it even arrives on Fridays, just in time for the weekend! A quick and fun quiz gets a sense for your taste preferences so you're likely to enjoy what they send you. Plus, each wine comes with a card that describes where it came from and recipes to pair it with. And the packaging for each bottle is usually pretty unique! If you don't go through all three bottles or don't think you'll like one, repurpose it for a housewarming gift this season. Browse their curated gift boxes too, starting at $50—a great gift for in-laws and couples hosting a party this year.

Spices are staples for both cooking and beauty—so I always like to have a variety of them on hand. Cinnamon and turmeric make great additions to masks and scrubs as well as dishes. I actually add a pinch of cinnamon to my coffee everyday for the anti-inflammatory benefits.

So the smell of walking into Penzeys Spices is right up there for me. In-store or online, it's fun to stock up on individual spices, but their gift sets are great options for the giving season. Especially the ones with a variety of salt and sugar free options. Here are two that caught my eye this season but there's tons to browse on their website.

International Salt Free Gift Pack ($28.49)

No salt, sugar or MSG. Just fresh and pungent spices and herbs, all excellent for flavorful fish, chicken and vegetables.

Mini Gift Box ($15.95)

Contains just the right amounts for a single recipe or a month's worth of a cooking/beauty staple like cinnamon: 1/4 cup jar each of our Penzeys Cinnamon, Penzeys Freshly Ground Pepper, Penzeys Garlic Powder and our salt-free Mural of Flavor Seasoning. Also includes cards with handy tips for each spice.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas this year! xo
